Apec® is the brand name used for copolycarbonates that constitute a further development of the Makrolon® polycarbonate produced by Bayer MaterialScience AG. With its unique combination of high heat resistance, toughness, transparency, light stability and flowability, Apec® is unlike any other engineering thermoplastic.
The product line based on this new polycarbonate technology includes grades with different levels of heat resistance, extending up to 220 °C.
The range of grades contains UV-stabilized and easy-release grades, also a medical grade** is available. The product line further contains grades with different flowability.

Makrolon OD2015 is a high-performance optical grade of polycarbonate resin used in the manufacturing of all optical disc formats. It has outstanding melt flow characteristics, high heat stability and good impact strength. Due to the very easy flow characteristics of the resin, it is possible to mold discs with minimal molecular orientation and residual stress. The result is low birefringence ( n) and very precise replication of the information surface (see Figure 1). These properties are key elements in any optical memory application.
,
Makrolon Rx1805 thermoplastic resin is a transparent
polycarbonate formulated to provide increased resistance
to chemical attack from IV (intravenous) fluid products,
such as lipid emulsions. It also takes advantage of
proprietary technology to significantly reduce the
discoloration associated with gamma radiation sterilization.
The resin is available in clear tint (451118) and selected
colors.
,
Makrolon Rx2530 polycarbonate resin is a radiationstabilized
medical grade with a high melt flow rate. It
provides a good balance of mechanical strength, impact
resistance, chemical resistance, and processibility.
It is available in clear tint 451118.
