DuPont™ ETPV eliminates the manufacturing boundary between rubber and plastics, by creating a new class of material called "engineering thermoplastic vulcanizates" (ETPV).
It's a high-performance elastomer, molecularly fused into a high-performance thermoplastic base resin.
Parts made of DuPont™ ETPV can withstand service temperatures up to 160°C, much higher than thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs). Manufacturing is done on conventional plastics equipment -- up to 10 times faster than traditional rubber processing.
Applications include automotive ducts and hoses, seals, and body plugs. Rubber-like flexibility and toughness is retained down to -40°C. Parts made of the new material are highly resistant to oil, grease and chemicals.
DuPont supplies DuPont™ ETPV as ready-to-process pellets, in Shore A hardness grades of 60 or 90, either standard (rated at 1000 hours at 150°C) or heat-stabilized (3000 hours at 150°C). The pellets can be injection molded, blow molded, extruded, or bi-component molded.
DuPont™ ETPV contains no extractables, so it's more storage stable than traditional elastomers. Like most thermoplastics, DuPont™ ETPV is fully recycleable.
